Past the teeth
and behind the smile
I feel there is
something
something left unsaid
because I see it
in your eyes
although the time has
gone so quickly by.
We get better when we
practice
and you've had
plenty of time
to teach yourself how
to pretend
that you don't care anymore
like I'm not there anymore.
Your plan did work
I must confess.
It worked until I
tread into your mess
once I unlocked the door
and I learned more;
the piles rising from
the floor
but you would perch
there in the middle of it all
with your false smile,
words, and your long,
long-awaited secret.

in a coffee shop
thinking about
her
again.
White porcelain rim
smooth as the arching
veins of her neck
to my lips
and I swallow her down
with sugar
and two creams.
I see my face in the
distorted mirror.
No eyes,
no nose,
no mouth
today
with which
I would tell her.
Waves of nothing
that are
the color of her thighs.
She doesn't taste like
Irish cream
but she intoxicates me
just the same.
Nimbuses do lurk
in the black sky beyond
the window
just as her black hair
does flow.
I love to hear her speak
yet well I know
that music hath
a far more pleasing sound.
